Abstract

This study was conducted to help the program Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE) in a private university to be enhanced. The descriptive method was used with questionnaire as the main tool in gathering data for the study. Statistical tools such as weighted mean, frequency and percentage were used in analyzing and interpreting the data gathered. “Graduate Tracer Study of Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering in a Private University” has five parts. Part I. Respondents’ Profile, Part II. Skills Learned that are useful in the respondents first job, Part III. Relevance of School Related Factors, Part IV. Core Values which contributed in meeting the demands of the present job, and Part V. Proposed Measures to improve the course. The study was conducted at the College of Engineering and Architecture, in a private university of Isabela that offers Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. The respondents of the study are all graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering program from academic year 2014-2015 to 2018-2019.

The result of the study revealed that majority of the respondents were able to work immediately after graduation; the primary reason of the unemployed graduates was family concern. Employment status of the respondents are mostly regular or permanent employees. Their employment nature is mostly matched with the course. The competencies learned in the university that the respondents found to be very useful in their first job was information technology/computer skills and communication skills. All school related factors are found very relevant to the respondents particularly professional subjects. The General Education subjects beneath curriculum are very useful as well in performing their everyday tasks. The work-related core values affect the present job of the respondents to a very large extent. Excellence, Integrity and Faith are found to be the top work-related core values.

The researcher proposed the following to the program: the graduating students must be given sufficient time to practice answering preemployment examinations and interviews. They should be provided with activity or program that will enhance the capability of the students to take pre-employment examinations. Secondly, the students must be motivated to work hard and persevere to finish their requirements for them to be able to graduate and find job immediately.
